Here is a great example of what happens when you put technology in the hands of children and just let them run with it! So far we have used the app Skitch to create labels on pictures. We have also used the app ShowMe for presentations. These 2 students finished their work in reading early and so I sent them into the cubbies to create a ShowMe where they explained how they found their answers. I told them they could use the app of their choice to share their thinking. They decided to use more than 1 app together. They did a wonderful job with it.
We are using ShowMe for several different types of presentations in our class. Students are practicing and getting better with ShowMe. The following activity is only the 2nd activity we did with ShowMe and it was a little rough, but I thought the videos were too cute to not post. You can hear me call students to attention at times or hear students get tripped up and not sure what to say. I think it will be fun to see the growth in terms of creating the presentations throughout the year. So this is us at the beginning of the year! These were created in the middle of September. We learned about Earth's 4 Systems in science. These include the hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere and geosphere. Gracie, Sadija & Creed created this Haiku Deck presentation with visual examples of the hydrosphere. Hydrosphere. - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires We use a lot of strategies in Mrs. Clark's room. We use strategies as guides to help us do the best we can. One strategy we use in the classroom is the UNRREAL strategy for reading.
In the UNRREAL strategy it is misspelled, but we do that for a reason. UNRREAL stands for Underline the title Number the paragraphs Read the question Read the passage/selection Eliminate wrong answers Answer Look back for evidence Those are the steps for an extended response or short answer. Another strategy we use in Mrs. Clark's room is our rounding poem. The rounding poem goes like this: Find the number, look next door, 5 or greater add one more, 4 or less, let it rest. Digits to the left, zero's your name. That poem helps me a lot with rounding. Another strategy we use in Mrs. Clark's room is the CUBES strategy. The CUBES strategy is for math. CUBES stands for Circle key numbers Underline the question Box any math action words Evaluate Solve and check I feel comfortable with math and reading when I use these strategies. I will use strategies and I hope they help my classmates, too. Written by Lisa-Bel Students have been studying plate boundaries and what happens both below and at the surface at these boundaries. We have been exploring the surface using Google Maps as well as reading articles about various plate boundaries. Students then created clay models of their boundary and included the important parts. We play fun new games that we've never heard of before. Fun Friday is the day Star Student gets to share about themselves and we get to learn about them. If everyone brings their homework on Friday, we get to have extra recess. This is why Fun Friday is fun!
